Obituary

Alvin Peyton Adams Jr. of Purvis, MS passed away on June 12, 2025 at Lamar Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Purvis.

Alvin was born May 26, 1942 in McComb, MS to Alvin Peyton Adams and Nita Ray Jones Adams.

He graduated from McComb High School and received an associate degree from Southwest Community College and a BA from the University of Southern MS in 1964. Following graduation from USM, he joined the Air National Guard and served in the reserves for many years.

He lived the past 42 years in Hattiesburg and Purvis, having lived and worked the earlier part of his life in Summit in the banking industry.
Alvin was a member of Purvis Methodist Church.

He was an avid fan of all USM sports, loved vacationing in the Smoky Mountains, and reading daily newspapers from all over the state. Even though he was a quiet, reserved fellow, family and friends still enjoyed his quick wit and dry humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rev. Larry Adams of Lancaster, VA.

He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy; two sons, Stephen Adams (Julia) of Summit, Pat Adams (Liz) of Cimarron,NM/ Palo Pinto, Tx; one daughter, Kara Adams of Mesquite Tx; one grandson Justin Adams (Jordan) of  Summit, MS; two granddaughters, Autumn Adams and Grace Adams of Cimarron, NM/Palo Pinto, Tx; and one great grandson, Jase Adams of Summit, MS. He also leaves two sisters, Eugenia Felder of Baton Rouge, La and Carol Schwager(John) of Greenville, SC; a sister in law Karen Adams of VA; a brother in law, Mike Perkins (Tina) of Purvis and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Summit, MS., on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Brad Fitzgerald. Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb is in charge of arrangements.
