Amos Philip Parker, Sr, 88, a resident of Summit, MS passed away June 30, 2024 at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 15, 2024 at First Baptist Church Summit from 9:00 AM until memorial services at 11:00 AM. Dr. Larry LaBlanc will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Hartman Jones Funeral will be in charge of arrangements.

Amos was born in Dossville, MS to James Burton Parker and Elvie Smith Wooten Parker. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Summit, where he served as a Deacon for many years.  He held the positions as secretary, vice-chairman, and chairman of the Board of Deacons. He also served in various other positions including many committees, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader and choir member.  He enjoyed missions and took trips with First Baptist Summit to Soldotna,  Alaska where he helped construct new churches.  His love for missions was further seen in his association with Las Communidades Unidas Por Salud or CUPS.  With them he used his expertise in water well drilling to provide clean water to rural areas of Mexico and Belize.  He spent his younger days in Louisiana, attending school in Jackson, LA and graduating from McKowen High School where he played football, basketball, baseball and ran track. Amos continued his love for sports by playing football and running tract at Southwest Mississippi Community College and participated in track and field at Southeastern Louisiana University where he graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts Education. In 1959 he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia and also served with the Mississippi National Guard.  In 1977 Amos opened The Warehouse in Summit, MS; which is still owned locally by family. He was a charter member of the Summit Lions Club, Pike County Arts Council, and the Pike County Little Theater, instrumental in establishing the Dixie Youth Baseball program in Summit, member of the Southwest Mississippi Shrine Club, a mason with Summit Lodge 231, served as a Summit volunteer fire fighter, on the Salvation Army Advisory Board and the United Givers Board, and for fifteen years on the Board of Directors of First Bank and for ten years as the President of the Southwest Mississippi Community College Vo-Tech Committee. For twenty-eight years he was the Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America, Summit Troop 143, and received the Tall Pine District of Merit; the highest award in scouting, along with other honors and recognition for his service in scouting. He Lead his four sons and grandson, Slaton, to the rank of Eagle Scout.  He was chosen as the McComb Junior Auxiliary Azalea Ball King in 2011 as recognition for his lifetime service to our community. Amos loved the outdoors and was a long time member of Camp Bucksnort in Port Gibson, MS.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Grayson Parker and ten siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Colleen Fay McMahon Parker, his children Amos Philip Parker, Jr. and wife Carol, Michael Parker and wife Kelly, Joseph Parker and wife Dee, and Jonathan Parker and wife Jennifer, grandchildren Chandler MacDonald and husband Kyle, Amos Philip Parker, III "Slaton" and wife Molly, Charlotte Parker, Jamie Parker, Collin Parker and wife Ginger, Sydney Parker, Gabriella Parker, Grace Parker and Andrew Parker, great grandchildren Parker and Reese MacDonald, Louella Parker and Lincoln Parker, a brother Carlton Parker and a sister Retta Bellgraph, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family of Mr. Amos Philip Parker, Sr. wishes to extend sincere thanks to the entire staff of Camellia Estates for the kindness and support extended to them and Mr. Amos during his stay there.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church Summit, designated for missions.
