Obituary

Anitra Mathews Williamson passed from this earthly life, peacefully at home with family by her side on January 19, 2024.

No services to be announced at this time.

Anitra was born at the old infirmary in McComb, MS to her parents Howard H. Mathews and Juanita Purl Mathews on October 12, 1939. She grew up in McComb but also lived many years in Houston, TX and also in Singapore for two years.

She went to elementary school in East McComb, then to North McComb Elementary. She graduated from McComb High School in 1957. Continuing her education at Millsaps College where she earned her Bachelors Degree in English. Later in life, she would attend William Carey College and receive her Masters degree. Anitra began teaching in 1966 at Denman Junior High, eventually to retire from North Pike High School.

Anitra was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and was thrilled to join them in traveling to New York to sing for the Lord at Carnegie Hall. She was a beautiful, talented piano player. She played at her church and did fill-ins for many local churches. She played recitals, plays for Pike County Little Theater and at home for her family through the years. She loved horseback riding and loved to sew, crochet, garden, and cook, which she always excelled in all she learned to do in life. Her favorite color was blue and her favorite song was "How Great Thou Art". She had many talents and she served them well.

She is preceded in death by her first husband Jesse Decell Daughdrill, tragically killed in a car wreck early in their marriage. Her loving husband, Warren W. Williamson Jr. that she so looked forward to retirement with and traveling. Two sons, Burney Decell Williamson and Warren W. Williamson III "Trey."

She is survived by two sons Benjamin M. Williamson and Howard M. Williamson and one daughter, Susan L. Brown. Two sisters Nelda Sibley and husband Al, and Lena Sue Burt. Four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and several special friends. She was a loving mother, sister, and friend and will be dearly missed.

"Anitra's Quote" ~ Life is not the pat on the back that we expect, then hope for, then long for. Life is living of it, whatever it offers, whatever we find to do with it, entwined with whatever we finally ask God to do with us for His purpose.
