Annie R.
Brent
February 6, 1929 – February 2, 2022
Annie R. Brent, 92, died peacefully on February 2, 2022, surrounded by family and friends. A graveside service will be held on February 11, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb. Rev. Danny Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery. Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Brent was born on February 6, 1929, to Sam and Cleo Ratcliff in Franklin County. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in McComb.
After training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA, Mrs. Brent returned to McComb to begin her extensive career serving others as a registered nurse. She worked first at the McComb City Hospital for 25 years. Later, she became Head of Nursing at the McComb Health Department. Many local adults remember "Miss Annie" giving them their shots as children. After 20 years at the health department, she retired.
A 50-year member of Fernwood Country Club, Mrs. Brent became an avid player of both tennis and golf in her later years. She was known as a fierce competitor and a fair player to all. Not only did Mrs. Brent win the Ladies Club Championship in golf for several years in a row beginning in 1976, but she also, along with her partner, was back-to-back champion in the Lad and Lassie tournament. She spent many happy times on the tennis courts or the golf greens as she perfected her excellent skills during her retirement years. Offering her expertise to others, Mrs. Brent will forever be a mentor and a special friend to many.
In addition, Mrs. Brent was an avid fisherwoman, and she enjoyed many hours of quietly waiting for the "perfect catch".
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth A. Brent, and two sisters; Katherine Davis and Pauline Cowart.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Brent Stewart; two grandchildren, Natalie Stewart Carr (Harrison) and Joshua Brent Stewart (Megan); five great grandchildren, Jonathan Carr, Sebastian Carr, Izabell Carr Lael (Austin), and Jackson Stewart; and one great great grandchild, Keon James Lael; three nieces, Vera Messer, Brenda Mack, and Kitty Brothers, a lifelong friend and confidant, Norma Krapac, and numerous other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church, 1700 Delaware Avenue, McComb, MS 39648 or to the charity of your choice.
The family extends a special gratitude to Compassus Hospice and to Verline Nichols for their compassionate care in recent months.
