Avis Lynn Miller, 93, of McComb, MS passed away on August 11, 2026 in McComb. She was born December 14,1932 in McComb, MS to Jesse and Helen Badon O’Brien. She was a 1951 graduate of McComb High School and held lifetime close friendships with many of her classmates.

She attended South McComb Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir. After moving to Port Gibson in 1970, she attended New Christian Fellowship Church and was devoted to her friends and community there, serving in the Christian Volunteer Service delivering meals to the elderly. Loving the Lord with all her heart and serving Him both in the community and in her home was her joy.

She worked 12 years as a dispatcher for the Port Gibson Police Department alongside her husband who was Chief of Police there for 29 years.

She was an avid gardener and an excellent cook and homemaker with an amaziing talent for design. Having the gift of hospitality, she enthusiastically opened her home in caring for many family and friends over the years. Other than her salvation, her most prized possession was her family. She loved family gathering as well as praying for and keeping up with all her extended family who were so very dear to her.

Her legacy of faith, fun-loving spirit, kindness and unconditional love for all people will live on in our hearts. She joyfully is now at home and standing on Holy ground with her Lord and Savior and will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Huey Garrett “Buddy” Miller, her son, Deryl Miller, her brother Donald O’Brien, her sister Billie Faye Dickerson and her son-in-law Chuck Stubbs.

She is survived by her daughter Angie Boleware (Jack) of Summit, her cherished granddaughter Katie Mixon (Joseph) of Knoxville, Tn and great grandchildren Evie and Porter who were the light of her life.

She is also survived by many nephews and nieces (who were like her own children) along with their families who were all dearly loved by her. The family would like to thank the staff of Bristol Hopsice and the staff of Aston Court for their diligent and compassionate care.

Visitation will be at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home from 10 AM until services at 11 AM on Saturday, August 15, 2026 followed by a graveside service at Hollywood cemetary. Officating the service will be her nephews Randall O’Brien and Barry Dickerson.

Pallbearers are Jack Boleware, Joe Mixon, Ted Jackson, Jon Jordan, Trey Roberts, and Alton Stone. Honorary Pallbearers are Gerry Dickerson, Bill Dickerson, Randy Clark, Chuck Campbell, and Garrett Jordan.
