Buddy "Rex" Boyd, 80, of Woodville, MS., passed away at his residence on Friday, August 29th, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will be Wednesday September 3, 2025 from 10 AM until services at 12 Noon at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb. Rev. Mark Wicker will officiate and burial will be in Boyd Cemetery in the Salem Community, MS.
He was born on November 17th, 1944, to Woodrow Wilson Boyd and Mary Merle Pittman of Tylertown, Mississippi. Buddy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a friend to everyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Rayborn and Brenda Anthony, brother Ronald Boyd, daughter in-law Rhonda Boyd, brothers in-law, Dale Anthony and Marlin Rayborn.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Mary Ann Boyd, three sons Denny Boyd, Darren Boyd and Jason Boyd (Erin Boyd); one daughter Melissa Shumaker, grandchildren Jeremy Boyd, Devan Boyd, Brook Boyd (Rusty), Hunter Boyd (Michael), Tyler Barton (Kayla), Jayden Shumaker (Luke), Robert Shumaker, Abby Boyd, Annaston Shumaker, Braxton Bourn and Sydne Johnson ; great-grandchildren Kain Lee Anthony Boyd, Brinley Spence, Baylen Spence, Ophelia Barton; sister in-laws, Jenette Blackwell and Ann Boyd. A special friend, Earl Pradillo and special classmate Joan Johnson.
In his lifetime, he worked different jobs, out of school he lived in Omaha, Nebraska where he worked for ceco steel. He met his wife and moved her to Omaha, and they lived there eight months, they moved home and went into partnership with his sister and brother-in-law running a diary in Walthall County. After dairying he went back to Ceco Steel in Maryland and Washington D.C. where he helped build Library of Congress and the Pentagon and several large buildings. After six years he moved his family back to Walthall County and went to work for Clark Construction as a superintendent traveling out of state to Iowa, Texas, and working on Clark's camp in North Carolina. He worked for Clark for 33 years.
He was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where he served training union director for several years. He loved his Salem community neighbors and friends. He made a choice to sell and move to Lake Mary in Woodville, Mississippi where he built another home with a long porch where he wanted to do nothing but sit on the porch and go fishing but his health failed shortly after and could not do any fishing, but he done plenty of rocking.
He loved his family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Pallbearers will be Jim Anthony, Bryan Antony, Kelvin Rayborn, Christopher McCullough, Jeff Barnes, and Caleb Barnes.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeremy Boyd, Devan Boyd, Hunter Boyd, Tyler Barton, Robert Cole Shumaker, Walter Blackwell, Dwight Blackwell JR, Charles Boyd, Stanley Brumfield, Rontae Magee, and Kenneth Rand.
