It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of a truly extraordinary man, Mr. Carl Edward “Bill” Slaven, who departed from this life and went home to be with Our Lord on September 22, 2026.

A visitation will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Hartman Jones Funeral Home from 10 AM until services at 1 PM. Rev. Jeff Phelps and Bro. Charles Creel will officiate and burial will be at Pounds-Slaven Cemetery in Magnolia, MS. Hartman Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born September 1, 1929 in Magnolia, MS to the late Joseph Cephus Slaven and Aby Kindrick Slaven, he was the youngest of ten children. Known for his enormous heart, and boundless, unconditional love, he left an indelible mark on everyone he met and the lives he touched. Over the course of his life, he served as a Korean Veteran as an 82 Airborne Paratrooper. He was a member of the American Legion Lodge #56 in Tylertown, MS. He was a 18-wheeler driver as well as proudly owned full service stations in Kenner, LA. Later in years, he became a dedicated farmer, and an antique shop owner who appreciated the stories behind treasured keepsakes.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his five brothers; his four sisters; two sons-in-law; and two of his grandchildren Desiree Mulkey and Thomas Mulkey Jr.

He was a deeply, loving, loyal, and devoted husband to his beloved wife Mary Denise Mull Slaven. Married for almost 30 years, they were truly inseparable soulmates who adored one another deeply and completely. They were a shining example of true devotion and lifelong companionship. He was a proud and loving father to his two daughters Connie Slaven Horn and Vivian Slaven Twilbeck and his two sons Walter Wayne Kelly (Connie) and Bobby Tarrel Kelly (Misty). His legacy continues through his adored ten grandchildren. He was also blessed to see his family tree grow even farther as a proud great-grandfather to 12 great-grandchildren and great-great grandfather to 10 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Pallbearers will be the Army National Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Thomas Mulkey, Willie Street, Trevor Gunn, Bobby Blansett, Jimmy Burns, and Steven Riemer.
