Obituary

Mrs. Carrie Lee Simmons Alford, 87, a resident of McComb went to be with our Lord on March 15, 2022.

She was born July 30, 1935 in the Silver Creek Community to the late Daniel Webster Simmons and Pearl Hughes Simmons.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and affectionately known to many as Granny, who was dearly treasured by her family.

She attended Progress School and Silver Creek Baptist Church in Pike County, Mississippi. She met B. Frank Alford, Jr. of Magnolia while in high school and married him. Frank and Carrie devoted their lives to owning, operating and managing Alford Sunflower Food Store and Shell Station in Magnolia. Frank and Carrie went to many places for the Sunflower Conventions, including Hawaii, Acapulco, Nashville, and other places they enjoyed.

After the death of her husband, B. Frank Alford, Jr., Carrie moved to McComb where she spent much more time with her children and grandchildren. She began walking with a group of ladies at the McComb Mall. She helped in picking her grandchildren up at school and getting them to ball practice and other events. She frequently traveled with her daughters, niece, and grandchildren all over the U.S., including Steamboat, Colorado; Destin, Florida; and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. She even camped out at Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Tennessee to watch her grandsons race motocross on many occasions.

Carrie Alford was preceded in death by her husband, B. Frank Alford, Jr., her parents, Daniel Webster Simmons and Pearl Hughes Simmons; her brothers, Tom Simmons and Sandy Simmons; and her sister, Dorothy Simmons Myers.

She is survived by her three daughters, Delilah Alford Shandy-Davis (John), Eileen Alford Martin (Jerry) and Angela Alford Gill. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Chasidy Lee Lenoir, Robert Alford Lenoir, Tyler Shandy (Carly), Jay Shandy, Jennifer Martin Rayburn (Jeremy), Christopher Martin (Ammie) and Olive Gill.

She is also survived by her sister, Billie Simmons Kavanay, two brothers, Danny Simmons and Pat Simmons, a very special niece, Patricia Morrell Simmons and nephew, Claude Morrell. She also had several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a very special friend, Tom Medlin.

Carrie's family welcomes all to her Memorial Service which will be held at First Baptist Church in Magnolia on Tuesday March 22, 2022 from 1 PM until service at 2 PM to be officiated by a very special family friend, Bro. Dennis Walker of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
