Carroll Stewart "Bud" Greer, 89, of McComb, passed away February 2, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be Sunday evening at Hartman Jones Funeral Home from 5 until 8 PM and continues Monday at First Baptist Church Summit, MS from 10 until services at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Reeves Cemetery in Summit. Dr. Larry LeBlanc and Rev. Brad Fitzgerald will officiate.
Pallbearers will Jimmy Hardy, David Moak, Mike Decoux, Donnie Coker, Carl Ernest Wilson, Lewis Roberts, Eric Landry and William Darrell Ryals.
Mr. Greer was born in his family home on December 11, 1934 in McComb to the late Jesse Wiley Greer and Pattie Cole Greer.
He was a retired conductor from Illinois Central Railroad for 43 years. Mr. Greer proudly served his country in the United States Navy and Marine Corps. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Summit and a Member of the Summit Masonic Lodge #231. Mr. Bud as he was known by everyone was an avid commercial fisherman and avid outdoorsman for all of his life. He took much pride in his ability to grow and raise catalpa worm trees and sold worms to countless fisherman for many years. He also taught third grade Sunday school class for several years. He also went on several mission trips with FBC Summit. If you ever met Mr. Bud, at some point in your life he has given you a penny with a cross stamped into it.
Mr. Greer was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and sister in laws, J.R. Greer (Edna), Jesse L. Greer(Mary Virginia); two sisters and brothers in law, Mary G. Decoux (David) and Ina May (Eddie).
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Fay Ryals Greer of McComb; two sons Carroll Anthony "Andy" Greer (Penny); Travis Wendell Greer (Katie); grandchildren Lanie Adelle Carpenter (Lane); Katie Elizabeth Taylor Greer; Kyley Garrett Greer; Ashlyn Elizabeth Arvizo (Eric); Sarah Greer; one great grandson Ben Arvizo; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
