Clifton Charles
(Cliff) Fleming
January 23, 1939 – September 28, 2023
Clifton (Cliff) Charles Fleming, 84, of Summit, MS., passed away September 28, 2023 at home with his loving family.
Visitation will be Monday October 2, 2023 from 12 Noon until services at 2 PM at Harman-Jones Funeral Home in McComb, MS, followed by graveside service at Temple Hill Church of Christ in Smithdale, MS. Bro. Lindeal Greer will officiate.
He was born January 23, 1939 in Smithdale, MS to the late Letha Nettles Fleming and Ernest J. Fleming.
He was retired, but spent the majority of his working life as owner/operator of Western Auto Retail Stores. Away from work Cliff enjoyed spending time with his family, watching football, and fishing. Cliff was also very active in the church, stepping in wherever he was needed. When he was young he was a member of the National Guard. He played football at Natchez High School and Southwest MS Community College.
He was proud to be a part of SMCC winning the state championship that year (58-59) and still has his letterman jacket.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest J. Fleming, and mother, Letha Nettles Fleming, both of Smithdale, MS, his brothers, Joe Brenton Fleming of Magnolia, MS and Russell Fleming of Lincolnton, NC.
Clifton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joy Edwards Fleming of Summit, MS, and five children: Eric Charles Fleming of Bude, MS and wife Melanie Manzo Fleming, Debbie Fleming Mann of Centreville, MS and husband Mark Mann, Nancy Fleming Stinson of Summit, MS and husband Randy Stinson, Robin Fleming White of Summit, MS and husband David White, and Wade Alan Fleming.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Connor Fleming and wife Stephanie, Olivia Fleming, Chelsea Mann Easterly and husband Daniel, Haley Mann Swarts and husband Eric, Destyn Mann Ford and husband Kodie, Hannah DeDon, Amanda White, Brittany White Domingue and husband Chad, and Jessica White Morris and husband Chris; as well as six great-grandchildren. Mr. Fleming is also survived by one brother, Burt Fleming of Central, LA, one sister, Linda Fleming Nelson of Smithdale, MS along with many nieces and nephews.
Cliff is also survived by his church family, Temple Hill Church of Christ in Smithdale, MS. He lead prayer, spoke at the pulpit, and would lead singing on occasion. Clifton was a faithful servant of God. He did not have to say, "I am a Christian", he lead by example.
This is true in every aspect of his life. He showed he loved you, he showed honor and strength of character. During his high school football years a newspaper article described him as "tough as leather" and he was, just that, his entire life.
Dad faced many hardships during his 84 years and always keep his head up and his bible open. He never whined about how hard his life was, it wasn't in his nature to do so.
He didn't have a materialistic bone in his body and worked his entire life to provide for his family only. He would often buy his clothes from secondhand stores if given a choice and drove around in the same beat up truck for 25+ years; not because he had to but because material things of this earth were not of much importance to him.
He was a great Man to look up to, a loving Husband, a wonderful Dad, a fun-loving Grandfather, and a most faithful Servant of God….we will miss him dearly and carry on in the Lord as his example taught us.
Pallbearers will be Connor Fleming, Chris Morris, Daniel Easterly, Kodie Ford, Eric Swarts, and Chad Domingue.
