Obituary

Cyrus Vincent Hoaglund, Jr, 84, of Summit, MS passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

Visitation is 5:00-8:00 pm on Saturday, May 28 at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home. Services will be on Sunday, May 29 at 2:00 pm at Centenary United Methodist Church with the Dr. Jim Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.

Cyrus was born on January 20, 1938, in Minneapolis, MN to the late Cyrus and Harriet Hoaglund.

He graduated from Wausau High School in Wausau, WI in 1956. He obtained his under graduate degree from Carol College in Waukesha, WI in 1960 and his law degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1963. He entered the FBI Academy at Quantico, VA in the fall of 1963 and served in the FBI for 25 years. He served twenty three of the twenty-five years in MS. He investigated the 16 Street bombing in Birmingham, Al and escorted James Meredith on his march from Memphis to Jackson, MS in 1966.

After his retirement from the FBI, he was elected Justice Court Judge where he served for 12 years.

He was an avid tennis player, snow skier, and water skier. He was a member of the Minocqua Bats Water Ski Club in Minocqua, WI. He was a coach, cheerleader, and an avid fan of the Fernwood- Fitlife Flippers. He coached both Dixie youth Baseball and Rotary basketball.

He served on the Board of Trustees of Centenary United Methodist Church and the Centenary Preschool Board.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Janice: daughter Molly and Pender Johnson, sons Eric and Amy Hoaglund and David and Claire Hoaglund. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Maddie, Lauren, and Katie Hoaglund, Jacob, Brady, and JP Johnson, and Abigail, Hailey, and Ava Hoaglund.

Pallbearers are Jacob Johnson, Brady Johnson, JP Johnson, Jim Hedges, Johnny Ott, Bill Woodworth, Ray Pettigrew, and Wayne Vinson.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Centenary Youth Missions and St. Andrews.
