Obituary

Dane E. Wilkinson, 40, of Liberty, MS, passed away tragically following a car accident on Thursday, August 20. He was a quiet, private man who lived a very simple life. While his path was often solitary and filled with complex personal challenges, those who knew him best knew the kindness that rested at the core of his character.

Dane carried a lot of deep care for the people in his life, even when his circumstances or choices created distance. He was a person who often kept to himself, but he never entirely stopped trying to find his footing and work toward a brighter path. In recent months, his family saw his ambition and desire to move forward as he invested in his health at the gym, looked for work, and stepped out to visit with family. Though his time to continue that journey was cut heartbreakingly short, those who saw him recently are incredibly grateful for those moments of connection, remembering a man who was trying his best to find his way back.

Having spent memorable parts of his youth in Colorado and Florida, Dane carried a lifelong love for music, outdoors, and gaming. Through his online gaming community, he connected with people all over the world, building genuine friendships that spanned across borders and cultures. He lived with very little, yet he had a remarkably generous heart. Moved by a natural empathy for others, Dane quietly looked out for those who needed a hand. He frequently used what little he had to offer rides, support, and a non-judgmental presence to anyone facing a hard time, keeping his friends in his heart even when paths diverged.

Above all else, Dane loved his daughter, Kinsley. He was immensely proud of her, and his brightest moments were those spent in her company.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lauren Wilkinson, Maternal Grandparents Hilton and Joan Caston, and Paternal Grandparents Phillip and Edith Wilkinson.

He is survived by his daughter, Kinsley Wilkinson, and his stepdaughter, Braelyn Patterson. He is also survived by his mother, Cindy Wilkinson and Tommy Harvey; his father, Phil Wilkinson and his wife Susan “Sam”; his sister, Mallory Ward, her husband Cannon and Children, Tucker, Briar, and Cash; Mother-in-law and Father-in-law Tammy and Ricky King, and numerous extended family. While paths diverged over the years, those who gather now do so with a shared desire to support his daughter and remember the best parts of his spirit.

A memorial service to gather, share memories, and honor the best parts of Dane’s character will be held on Wednesday August 26, 2026 at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home in McComb from 12:00 until services at 2:00 PM. Bro. Cannon Ward will officiate.
