Burial will follow in the Newman Cemetery. Hartman Jones Funeral Services will handle arrangements.

David was born on March 27, 1944, in Gillsburg to James Claude and Effie Newman Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Paul, Bernard, and Bernell (Doc) Wilson; his sisters, Valerie Wilson Wesberry, Arnetta Wilson Taylor; and an infant son.

David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Brenda James Wilson; one son, Jarett David Wilson (Kristi); one granddaughter, Saylem Harper Wilson, who was the apple of his eye; one brother, Claude Dennis Wilson (Ann); and several nieces and nephews.

David loved his family dearly. He loved collecting antiques, visiting flea markets and old cemeteries, and studying and talking about history. He also enjoyed quail hunts for many years. David was a member of Gillsburg Baptist Church since the age of 12, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He had a particular adoration for the Old Testament. Keeping with his love for his church, all things historical, and his home of Gillsburg, while honoring a request from his late mother, David was devoted to the upkeep of the Historical Gillsburg Baptist Church building, and he led its complete restoration in recent years. David was also an avid supporter of Amite School Center in Liberty, Mississippi, where he served on the Board of Directors, both as a board member as well as its president. He also served on the Amite County Medical Clinic Board of Directors.

Pallbearers will be Jarett Wilson, Brad Wilson, Brady Wilson, Ricky Williams Jr., Darin Newman, and Sherman Farmer.

David's family would like to thank Compassus Hospice with special thanks to Dianne Wilkinson, NP, and Corey Morris, RN.
