Obituary

David E "Smitty" Smith, 69, of Summit, MS passed away at his residence on March 30, 2024.

Visitation will be at Hartman Jones Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 PM on Thursday at Hartman Jones Funeral Home from 12:00 PM until services at 2:00 PM, Burial will follow in Woodlawn cemetery in Summit.  Rev. Mike Harrigill will officiate. Hartman Jones Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be the North Pike High School Baseball Team.

Smitty was born May 4, 1954, in McComb, MS to Edwin Winston Smith and Helen Moak Smith.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Summit. He graduated from McComb High School in 1971 and attended Southwest Mississippi Community College.  Smitty worked for the McComb Housing Authority and the Mississippi Housing Authority.    He was an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan.  He enjoyed watching all sports.  He spent countless hours at the North Pike sports games. He was the retired director of Dixie Youth Baseball.  He enjoyed traveling to the Great Smokey Mountains. He followed his ancestry and was a member of the McDavid Clan of Scotland.  For the last 30 plus years he served the Summit Community as Santa in the local Christmas parade.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

He is survived by his sister Eileane Cutrer (Mike) of McComb, a niece Brittney Cutrer of McComb, a nephew Christopher Cutrer of McComb, a special aunt Rhoda Westbrook, along with numerous cousins and a host of friends.
