Delmar Kenneth
Surrett
November 16, 1935 – July 8, 2023
Delmar "Del" Kenneth Surrett of Summit, MS passed away at his home in Amite County on Saturday July 8, 2023, at the age of 87. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bessie Ruth Surrett, a twin brother Delbert, sister Frances and his loving wife Louise.
He is survived by his son Robert (Rob) and wife Bella Surrett, two grandsons, Eric and wife Mary Morgan Surrett, Ethan Surrett, and a very special niece Yvonne James of Bartlesville Oklahoma.
Del was born in Bartlesville Oklahoma before moving to California as a child. He graduated from Pasadena City College with a degree in business. After taking a job with Phillips Petroleum, he moved to Mississippi where he met Rob's mother Virginia. They would marry, move to Alabama, welcome Rob, and Del would become a stepfather to Rob's brother and sisters for many years. In his work for Phillips Petroleum he traveled extensively promoting their products as well as educating others on the Trans-Atlantic Pipeline, as well as other things specific to the oil industry. Del would stay in Alabama for many years, retire there, marry his wife Louise, and watch Rob graduate high school in Alabaster. For many years later he became a supportive and loving caretaker to Louise. In 2004, after Louise passed away, Del moved to Mississippi to be closer to Rob, and built a home he would refer to as 'the farm'. He was happy there many years, with his best friend Henry, his beloved dachshund. He farmed growing tomatoes in the summer and greens in the fall. He enjoyed watching Rob and his grandsons create deer plots for future hunting trips. He fished his large pond, and took great care of the farm. He loved to mow and be on his tractor disking garden spots. In recent years, his health would force him to leave the farm and move closer to Rob and Bella. He enjoyed many days of online shopping, cooking, visiting with friends and family, and his daily trip to town to get his paper and visit with Fran.
He lived a good long life. And will be remembered always as Dad, PawPaw, and Mr Del.
