Marion Doris Powe Millican, 86, a resident of McComb, MS; passed away on February 20, 2022 at her residence.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Central Baptist Church from 11:00 AM until services at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Hollywood cemetery. Rev. Mike Morris, Dr. Robert Netterville and Rev. Rick Kennedy will officiate. Hartman Jones Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
Doris was born on February 15, 1936 to Albert G. Powe, Sr. and Florence McCarty Powe.
She attended elementary school in Chicora, MS and later graduated high school in Clara, MS just a few miles from her home.
Although Doris' parents were Church of God and Methodist, she began to attend the Baptist church in Chicora. She and her best friend Elizabeth Pope both accepted Christ there and were baptized in the Chickasawhay River near the church. Later, Elizabeth married the very pastor who baptized them and he and Liz soon became Southern Baptist missionaries.
Doris graduated from William Carey University in 1958. She then attended the University of Southern Mississippi for graduate studies and soon began her teaching career. She taught one year at Prichard Jr. High School and one year at Stonewall High School before moving to McComb where she retired from McComb High School after teaching there for nearly 26 years.
Later in life, Doris discovered she had a talent for painting. Her brush strokes she leaves behind on her canvasses are as beautiful as is the legacy of her gentleness, her kindness and her strong Christian faith and values.
She was a longtime member of South McComb Baptist Church and for the last 20 years has been a member of Central Baptist Church.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Albert G. Powe, Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. David Alan Millican, Sr. of 63 years; three children, David Alan Millican, Jr. of Brandon, Alisa Kaye Wamsley (James) of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Allison Anne Cullom (Greg) of Diamondhead; three grandchildren, Sarah Anne Lewman of Seattle, Washington, Thomas Cody Lewman of Billings, Montana, and Grant Alexander Cullom of Melbourne, Australia; a sister-in-law, Gloria Powe of Hattiesburg; a niece, Donna Green (Wayne) of Hattiesburg; a nephew, Scott Powe (Debbie) of Bay St. Louis; three bonus granddaughters, Camila Wamsley, Celeste Black (Billy), and Carina Wamsley, all of Rock Springs; and three bonus great-grandchildren, Gianna Belin Bozner, Sophia Rose Bozner, and Joseph Cyril Bozner, all of Rock Springs.
Pallbearers will be Don Carlisle, Kevin Johnston, Daniel Hart, Kirk Haskins, Mervin Boyd, Randall Allen and Bob Kyzar.
