Dorothy Whittington, 87, a resident of Brookhaven, MS; formerly of Smithdale, MS, passed away on March 29, 2022 at Diversacare Nursing Home in Brookhaven.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Hartman Jones Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 9:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Smithdale.  Burial will be in the Oak Grove cemetery.  Rev. Cletus Moak and Rev. Lonnie Case and Bro. Emory May will officiate.

Dorothy was born on May 30, 1934 in Amite, Co. to Collis Whittington and Annie Pearl Whittington.

She was a lifetime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.  Dorothy enjoyed life, especially reading her bible.  She worked for many years at Kellwood and also with the Ramada Inn and on a tugboat as a cook.  She spent time selling avon, scrapbooking and collecting hummingbirds.  She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister Margaret Whittington, two brothers Luther Whittington and Harold Whittington

She is survived by her sons Michael McKenzie (Yevgeniya) of Smithdale and Lamar McKenzie (Vicky) of Summit, a daughter Teresa Sanford (Jamie) of Purvis, fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren, along with numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be:  Bobby Freeman, Jonathan McKenzie, Brad Hart, Noah Howard, Tony Whittington and Chris Parrish.
