Obituary

Elizabeth Lee Walker Dunnaway, 84, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, died peacefully on January 26, 2026, at her home, surrounded by family.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Brentwood, located at 601 Delaware Avenue, McComb, Mississippi, from 11 AM until 1 PM, followed by a graveside service at Hollywood Cemetery. Hartman-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth was born on March 1, 1941, in McComb, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Joseph Marshall Walker and Virginia Helen Brent Walker. She was a graduate of McComb High School, earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Millsaps College, and later obtained a Master's Degree in Education from William Carey College. She taught elementary school for several years and later taught Gifted & Talented classes at Ocean Springs Middle School.

Elizabeth was a devout Christian who taught Sunday school, spoke at conferences and churches, and worked with many organizations, including Youth for Christ. She was blessed artistically and poetically. She won numerous art awards, including the Mississippi Easter Seal Contest, and her paintings were displayed in McComb and across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She specialized in artwork magnifying Christ and the Holy Spirit. She was also the author of the book Led by the Holy Spirit.

Elizabeth loved spending time with her family, especially during holidays and on vacations. Her heart's desire was to see her family carry on her legacy of being a light to the world.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Virginia Walker Burrows, all of McComb, Mississippi.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Phil Ray Dunnaway of Ocean Springs; her son, Phillip Brent (Sara) Dunnaway, and their children Alyssa, Anna, Preston, and Ashton; her daughter, Alicia Dunnaway (Marty) Estis, and their children Ethan, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Susanna; her son, David Bryan (Laura) Dunnaway, and their children Emma, Sadie, and Molly; her brother, Joseph Brent (Barbara) Walker of Memphis, Tennessee; and several beloved nieces, nephews, and other family members. Special recognition is given to her niece, Barbara Burrows Willis, who was like a second daughter to her.
