Obituary

Floyd David Alexander, Sr., 90, of Jayess, MS, passed away on May 13, 2025 at his residence.

A visitation will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church from 5 PM until 8 PM, continuing Friday, May 16, 2025 from 11 AM until services at 1 PM. Bro. Emon White and Bro. Nicky Martin will officiate. Burial will be at Walker Graveyard. Hartman Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Floyd, also known as Deacon or Papa, was born on March 15, 1935 to the late Floyd Leslie Alexander and Gussie Walker Alexander. He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad for 44 years before retiring back home in Pricedale, MS. He was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pricedale, MS, joining the church at 11 years old. He enjoyed picking up cans and mowing the yard. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, picking them up from school and taking them to see cows. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He was loved in the community and will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Joyce Lynn Alexander; two brothers Charles Everett Alexander and John Anderson Alexander; and one sister Mary Louise Harris.

He is survived by his wife of 64 loving years, Sara McLemore Alexander; three children Connie Allen (Mark), David Alexander (Selena), and Diane Smith (Chris); five grandchildren Constance Lyles (Dusty), Nicole Reed (Derek), Brandon Alexander (Brittny), Christopher Smith and Dustin Smith; nine great-grandchildren Hayden, Alex, Connor, Gunner, Chloe Belle, Lainey, Easton, Sara, and Rhett; one sister Elaine; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Smith, Brandon Alexander, Dusty Lyles, Hayden Alexander, Mark Allen, and Derek Reed. Honorary Pallbearers will be Will Alexander, Todd Thompson, Christopher Smith, Jerry Dickerson, and Chris Smith.
