Roderick Gaylon Varnado, 90, of McComb, MS passed away on May 3, 2024.

Visitation will be at Hartman Jones Funeral Home on Friday, May 10 from 9:00AM until services at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.  Dr. David Millican will officiate.

Mr. Varnado was born August 10, 1933 in Tangipahoa Parish, LA to James Vernon Varnado and Frances Evelyn Pritchard Varnado.

Gaylon graduated from Progress High School. He was drafted in the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict.  He was a longtime member of South McComb Baptist Church and later joined First Baptist Summit.  He retired in 1999 from State Farm Insurance where he worked for 35 years as a local agent. He enjoyed farming and tending to his cattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Linda Varnado, his brothers Stanley Varnado, Hollis Varnado, his sisters Nina Smith, Eloise Strickland, Gladys Allen, Faye Brumfield and Verlia Mae Conerly, along with several nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his children Polly Varnado Crawford of Slidell, LA and Lance Varnado (Cara) of McComb, grandchildren Rodrick Varnado, Abby Jane Varnado, Lauren Klene and Presley Crawford, great grandchildren Lainey Varnado, Madelyn Whittington, Julianne Whittington, Ridge Varnado and Atlas Thompson, along with other relatives and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Randall Allen, Steve Crawford, Chris Daughdrill, Mark Barclay, Malcolm Allen and Darryl Busbin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Brumfield, Tommy Brumfield, James Brumfield, Derrell Allen and Terry Conerly.
