Obituary

Gladys Mae Smith Germany passed away Thursday, August 4, 2022 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

She was born January 12, 1923 to Tobe Smith and Eunice Irene Barron Smith in McComb, Mississippi.

She was a graduate of McComb High School.  She played Basketball and was known as Olive Oil from a play she was in.  On March 23, 1961, she married the love of her life, Travis Germany, in McComb, Mississippi.  Gladys loved spending time with her family.  She sent her grandkids and their spouses, great-grandkids and great-great-grandchildren $5.00 every year for their birthdays.  It was the best $5.00 they ever got!  She was employed as a machine operator at Kellwood for 38 years.  She enjoyed working in her yard, Cajun music, and Southern Gospel Hymns.  She loved the LSU Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels.  She was a member of South McComb Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tobe and Eunice Smith; husband, Travis Germany; daughter, Joann Whitfield; and sister, Ruth Allbritton.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Mildred Harvey of Silver Creek, Mississippi; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ted Guy of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; son-in-law, Winston Whitfield of Poplarville, Mississippi; and sister, Liz O'Quinn; seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will begin with visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 1:45 p.m., on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Hartman – Jones Funeral Home, 1801 Delaware Ave, McComb, MS 39648, followed by 2:00 Interment, Hollywood Cemetery, 900 Pennsylvania Ave, McComb, MS 39648.
