Helen Ruth Powell, age 94, of McComb, MS, passed away on February 23, 2024, at her residence in McComb.

She was born on August 30, 1929, in McComb, MS, to the late Lee and Iris Smith. Helen was a warm and caring person who cherished her family dearly. She was a longtime member of the Queen Esther Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, where she formed many cherished friendships.

She loved her family with all her heart. The grandchildren all spent many happy hours having fun at Nanny P's.

Helen also loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Summit and held a special love for her Sunday School class.

Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, cross-stitching, and sewing. She was gifted with a special talent in all of  the many things that she made for friends and family.

Helen is survived by her daughters: Brenda Williams of McComb, MS; Melanie McCurry (Greg) of Madison, MS; Grandchildren: Brad Williams (Teisha), Dana Wallace, Shane Summers, Russ Booth (Gentry), Bretta Summers, and Chance Summers; 17 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Parham (Bud) Powell; son, Terry Summers; sisters: Maxine Stevenson, Marjorie Livingston, and Willie Faye Turnage.

Visitation will be held Monday Feb. 26, 2024 at Hartman Jones Funeral Home from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, with services following in the Chapel at 3:00 PM.  Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brad Williams, Russ Booth, Peyton Wallace, Ross Williams, Blaine Fortenberry and Tyler Reed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church Summit. A special thanks to St. Luke's Hospice Care for all of their help in making this an easier journey for her. And last but not least a very special thank you to her caretakers for the last 3 years: Brenda Hill, Cindy Parks, Kathy Austin and Jacklyn Wallace.
