Obituary

Howard W. Alford, 89, of McComb, MS passed away at his daughters home on June 12, 2023  surrounded by his loving family.

Graveside services will be held in the Dr. W.F. Simmons Memorial Cemetery in Progress, MS., Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 2 PM. Bro. Phillip Alford will officiate and Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb will be in charge of arrangements.

Howard was born on January 1, 1934 to the late Luther W. (Luke) and Lura W. Alford

Howard was a MS Representative for the Southeastern Compensation Rating Bureau and a member of the First Baptist Church of McComb. He was a graduate of Roseville Joint High School in Roseville, CA., a graduate of Ole Miss Class of 1961 and after losing his vision, he went on to earn his Masters of Divinity Degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1977 and used the degree to become a Christian Counselor. He was a loving father and grandfather who loved the outdoors, camping, and rafting the American River in California. He was an avid book lover and reader before his loss of sight, but continued his love of reading through books on tapes. He was a kind man who loved his family dearly and he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother George Alford, two sisters, Norma Dean Hodges and Lucy Hull, and a grandson Luke Simmons.

He is survived by one daughter, Christi Simmons of Summit, four grandchildren, Sarah, Leah, Matthew and Eli Simmons all of Summit, MS., and a niece Sheila McKie of Yazoo City, MS.
