Obituary

Howard Monroe Barron passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023.

He was born August 9, 1927 and was the son of Earnest "Nap" and Annie Barron in McComb, Mississippi.

Howard was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He enlisted in the US Army in 1945 and in 1949 re-enlisted to the newly established US Air Force. During his tenure he served 8 yrs 4 mo overseas and a total of 27.5 years of service. He received a number of awards: National Defense Service Medal (2), Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Commendation Award, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Good Conduct Medal (2), Air Force Good Conduct Medal w/2 loops, Air Force Good Conduct Medal w/5 brass loops, Air Force Good Conduct Medal w/ 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Longevity Service Award w/5 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Longevity Service Award w/2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired in 1973 at the rank of Master Sergeant.

Howard continued his working career with Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS where he held positions as 1st Class Structural Welder, Welding Instructor, and 1st Class Electrician until his second retirement.

After retirement he enjoyed keeping up with his routines, spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids, traveling wherever Virginia could get him to go, camping in the RV, maintaining his annual gardens, and eating BLT's.

Howard is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Ida Virginia Barron (Smith) laid to rest February 10, 2023, Son Stanley Barron, and Daughter Susan Barron.

Howard is survived by two sons, Michael (Norrie) Barron and Ronald Barron, 8 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Granddaughter, a host of nieces nephews and extended family. He was a true patriarch to every one of us.

Howard Monroe Barron's life will be honored at Hartman Jones Funeral Home in McComb MS on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 with visitation at 10AM and service officiated by Dr. David Millican at 11AM. Burial will be at Barron Bethany Cemetery and will include military honors.
