Jack Everette Simmons, 83, of Magnolia, passed away January 20, 2015, at his home with family.
Visitation will be Friday 5p.m. to 9p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in McComb. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9 am to 11 am at Bala Chitto Baptist Church with funeral services there at 11 am. The Rev. Wayne Dubose will officiate. Burial will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery.
Mr. Simmons was born on September 26, 1931, in Magnolia, to Victor and Lucy Pigott Simmons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his best friend and wife Fay Mixon Simmons, one brother Dennis C. Simmons, and a sister Bennie Simmons Smith and brother in law Chrisman Smith.
Mr. Simmons was a member of First Baptist Church Magnolia. After high school, he joined the Army serving during the Korean War. He was married to his best friend for 49 years and worked together hand in hand operating a dairy farm, grocery& gas station, feed store, and growing row crops. Simmons' Grocery was more than a country store it was a place where they could enjoy visiting with the people they loved dearly in their community. He will be best remembered for his passion for work. Those that knew him best knew that it was not just work to him, it was time spent with family. Even after retirement, he and his wife could be found most days in the woods cutting a few trees and just enjoying time together.
Survivors include his 3 sons and one daughter-in-law, Thad Everette Simmons and wife Lisa Lang Simmons of Magnolia; Victor M. Simmons and Shelton J. Simmons of Magnolia; 3 grandchildren Tyler M. Simmons, Sami E. Simmons, and Alli F. Simmons, all of Magnolia; 3 nieces and their spouses, Decie Simmons Horn and Phil of Abingdon, VA, Susan Simmons Johnson and Phil of Jacksonville, FL, and Becky Smith Cole and Ron of McKinney, TX, and one nephew Chrisman Clare Smith and Midge of Louisville, KY; numerous sisters and brother in laws, numerous friends in their community and devoted customers to their country store, and one very special friend, Britt Simmons of Magnolia.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Graves, Phil Johnson, Tanner Johnston, Tyler Simmons, Kyle Staton, and Scott Staton.
Honorary pallbearer will be Britt Simmons.
