James Allen Causey, 96, a resident of Collins, MS, formerly of Liberty, MS; passed away peacefully, surrounded by his fellow veterans on June 8, 2023 at the State Veterans Home in Collins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Hartman Jones Funeral Home from 9:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Terrell Cemetery in Liberty. Dr. Stanley Weatherford will officiate.
James was born on July 12, 1926 in Liberty, MS to Robert and Nona Seale Causey. James was drafted into the Army at 18, in July 1944. He received his basic training and warfare training in Camp Blanding, FL. He was deployed to the Pacific during WWII, where he was a replacement soldier for the 96th Infantry Division (The Deadeyes) Co C 381st Infantry Regiment. During the Battle of Okinawa, he was wounded by shrapnel and earned his Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Good Conduct medals. He was also presented a Presidential Unit Citation award and a WWII Victory Medal. Following his service in WWII he attended Ole Miss and MS State and graduated from MS State with a BS in Education. He married Patsy Lois Brumfield on December 14, 1952. Shortly after their wedding, he commissioned as a Second Lieutenant Infantry Officer. He returned to active duty with a brief tour in South Korea repatriating enemy Chinese and North Korean soldiers at the end of the Korean Conflict. Following his return from Korea, he obtained a Masters Degree in Counseling from the University of Southern Mississippi, with some assistance from his wife. James Allen made a career decision after the birth of their son Patton to return to active duty permanently. He was assigned to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. His daughter Clara was born while on assignment at Fort Sam Houston. His other assignments included the NATO Hospital in Paris, France, returning to Fort Sam Houston, Fort Leavenworth Kansas, a year in Vietnam with the 68th Medical Group (1966-1967), Fort Riley Kansas, and his last assignment was working for the Army Surgeon General Office in Washington, DC. He retired as a Lt Col and returned home to Amite County to take care of his family. He loved Amite County and was an active participant in the Amite Co. Historical and Genealogical Society. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all he met. James Allen was an active member of the East Fork Community and East Fork Baptist Church. He knew the word of Jesus was most important and supported many mission trips. James Allen with his wife Patsy encouraged and supported many Mississippians in their education endeavors through scholarships at The University of Southern Mississippi, Southwest Mississippi Community College and Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jane Causey Weatherford, his brother Robert Murray Causey, Jr.
He is survived by his wife Patsy Brumfield Causey of McComb, sisters Margaret Causey Duck of Baker, LA, Linda Causey Tiller of Liberty, MS, his children Patton Allen Causey of Brandon, MS, and Clara Causey McKinnon (Warren) of Theodore, AL, grandchildren Ashley Causey Sloan (Brennon), Cheyenne Causey, Morgan Causey and great Grandson Brayden Sloan, daughter-in-law Lisa Causey, along with numerous other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the State Veterans Home in Collins for the loving care they gave to Mr. James during his stay with them.
