January 1, 1939 – December 19, 2022
James Martin Moak, 83, of Summit, MS passed away Monday December 19, 2022 at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 – 8 PM at Johnson Grove Church of Christ, 669 Auburn Dr. SW Bogue Chitto, MS and will continue Friday from 10:00 until services at 11:00 AM. Bro. Randy Spring and Bro. Doug Kimble will officiate. Music will be led by Bro. Jeff Frank. Burial will follow in the Johnson Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Moak was born January 1, 1939 in Bogue Chitto, MS to the late Thomas Julius Moak and Zelma Wallace Moak.
He worked for Sunbeam Bread Company for numerous years before his retirement. He had a passion for children and helped countless kids through the Pike County 4H Club. If a child didn't have a cow, Mr. James would loan them one to show and give them the feed to grow it. Mr. Moak spent countless hours at the Pike County Fairgrounds and the Mississippi State Fairgrounds teaching children how to raise, care for and show cattle in 4H competitions. He was known throughout the community for his cattle farming and bailing hay. Mr. Moak also served in the United States Army. He was a longtime member and past president of the Pike County Fair Board and he served in numerous positions for the Cattlemen's Association. He will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers Elder Ray "Bud" Moak, Dennis Moak, Delos Moak and Delton Moak.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy Sue Smith Moak of Summit; daughter Cindy Moak McEwen and husband Darren of Summit; son Brian Moak and wife Tammy of Summit; grandchildren Jason McEwen and wife Sarah of Madison, MS; Jana Brackett and husband Blaise of Chelsea, AL; Skyler Moak of Summit; Madison Moak of Summit; Brandon Moak and wife Auburn of Jackson, MS; one great grandson Luke McEwen; sister Malissia Sasser and husband Bert of Bogue Chitto; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
