Mr. Jerry L. Mixon, 82, a resident of Summit, MS, passed away at the Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center on Saturday, December 23, 2023.
He was born May 15, 1941 in McComb, the son of the late Hilton B. and Wynona Smith Mixon. He was a proud graduate of Magnolia High School where he made many life-long friends. He studied at the University of Southern Mississippi. He was employed for 41 years with the Illinois Central Railroad as an electrical engineer and certified locomotive engineer. Mr. Mixon served in the Mississippi National Guard. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was proud of us all in so many ways. He loved to tell stories of the railroad, fishing adventures and childhood. His beloved dog, Lil' Bit was always along for the ride.
Mr. Mixon is survived by his wife, Mary Ann McCool Mixon. Two sons: Scott Mixon and Trey Mixon both of Summit, Mississippi. One daughter, Stacy and husband, Joe, Davenport of Dunedin, Florida. One brother, W. B. Mixon of Clinton, MS. Two sisters, Diane Lane of Alabaster, Alabama and Kathy Lee of Mooresville, Mississippi. Two grandchildren: Ben Mixon and Parker Davenport.
Visitation will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Hartman-Jones funeral home. Graveside services for Mr. Jerry L. Mixon will be held at 2:00 P.M. at the Mixon Family Cemetery. Dr. David Millican will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ben Mixon, Jacob Causey, Brady Cooksey and Randy Brownell. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Mixon, Trey Mixon, Tom Dickinson, Frank Martin and Harvey Temple.
