Dr. John Kenneth "Jimmy" McDonald, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Mandeville, Louisiana.
Born in Liberty, Mississippi, on February 2, 1934 to Beatrice Greene McDonald and Charles Ross "Steamboat" McDonald, John's life was marked by deep faith, dedicated service, and enduring love for family, community and he never met a stranger. A talented athlete, he attended Louisiana State University on a track scholarship. After graduating from LSU, he pursued his calling in dentistry at the University of Maryland Dental School, where he earned his dental degree. Following his graduation, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to his beloved hometown of McComb, Mississippi, to raise his family and begin his long and compassionate career in dentistry. For many years, Dr. McDonald faithfully served the community of McComb, not only as a skilled and trusted dentist but also as a generous humanitarian by providing dental care to the retired nuns of St. Mary of the Pines in Chatawa at no cost as well as to countless others in need. A devoted Catholic, Dr. McDonald was an active member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He served in numerous roles, including Eucharistic minister, lector, parish council member, and as the first president of the St. Alphonsus Catholic School Board. His service extended far beyond his church and dental practice. Throughout his life, he served on the boards of several local organizations, including the March of Dimes, Tall Pine District of the Boy Scouts of America, Progressive Bank of Summit, Bank of McComb, First Bank, and Fernwood Country Club. His leadership, integrity, and community spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was an avid and skilled outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and tennis.
Dr. McDonald is survived by his beloved wife and high school sweetheart of 70 years, Judy Harbison McDonald, and their five children: Cindy Stanley of Jackson, Mississippi; Ken McDonald (Tracy) of Friendswood, Texas; Lynn Boyce (Darryl) of Mandeville, Louisiana; Karen Treuting (Jimmy) of Mandeville, Louisiana; and Randy McDonald of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; and 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
Dr. McDonald's legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of his family,
friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable life.
