John Doyle Holmes, lovingly known as "Honest John", "Single Foot", "Road Runner" and "Johnny B Good"; passed away on October 8, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Hartman Jones Funeral Home and will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM in the Hartman Jones Chapel. Burial will follow in Miracle Lighthouse Church Cemetery. Bro. Jeff Phelps and Bro. Hugh Lambert will officiate.
Mr. Holmes was born on October 22, 1953 in Chatawa, MS. He was the son of Charlie Holmes and Willie Mae Phelps. He loved to travel, tell stories of his younger years. Always making people laugh seemed to be his strong suit. He enjoyed the time spent at The Market having coffee with his friends, watching wrestling and sitting on the porch watching the chickens. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his wife Theresa Bryant, his mother Willie Mae Phelps and her husband Buck Phelps, his father Charlie Holmes and his wife Dot Holmes, his sister Linda Kay Phelps and his brothers Charles Ray Holmes, Jerry Holmes and Hance Holmes.
He is survived by two brothers Jimmy Ray Phelps and Denise of Osyka, Hank Holmes and Tammy of Jayess, five sisters Patsy Phelps and Billy Ray of Magnolia, Betty Fair and Adrain of Magnolia, Zelita Lambert and Hugh of Fernwood, Stacey Garcia and Raymond of Magnolia, Donie Holmes of Long Beach, three step brothers Jeff Phelps and Connie of Magnolia, Buck Phelps, Jr. and Joyce of Magnolia, Therrell Phelps and Ree of Franklinton, LA, four stepsisters Neomia Forbes and Ronnie of Magnolia, Rita Roach and Danny of Thomas, LA, Mary Thomas and Darol of Robert, LA, Marilyn Wood and Tommy of Tylertown, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Phelps, David Huff, Dwane Stevens, Wayne, Merrick, Gage Vielee, Daniel Huff and Michael Graves.
Honorary pallbearers will be Otis Wilkinson and Brian Calhoon.
