Obituary

John Robert Grafton, affectionately known as "Jughead," passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024, at the age of 54. Born on April 28, 1970, John lived a life full of passion, joy, and dedication, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

John enjoyed a fulfilling 30-year career in the restaurant industry, beginning in the early '90s at McAlister's and eventually finding his forever home as a manager at Magnolia Blues. He was well-loved by his colleagues and patrons alike, known for his leadership, work ethic, and genuine care for those around him.

John's love of sports began as the manager of the McComb High School baseball and football teams, where he earned the nickname "Jughead." His passion for the game continued as he coached several summer league teams at Edgewood Park and Rotary Field, including All-Star teams. He also served as an umpire for many summers, contributing to the community that meant so much to him.

An avid sports fan, John had an unwavering love for the LSU Tigers, and the New Orleans Saints, cheering them on with enthusiasm throughout the seasons. His love for sports was matched by his enjoyment of card games, particularly the moments spent playing Uno and Skip-Bo with his nieces and nephews, as well as poker with friends—even though he wasn't very good.

John's vibrant personality shone through in everything he did. He was the life of the party, embracing every opportunity to dress up for Halloween or play Santa, spreading joy to all around him. His warm, welcoming nature endeared him to everyone who crossed his path, making them feel like family.

John's love for the Lord was apparent. He always led a beautiful blessing before our family Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas meals. "Brother John" was always ready and willing. John also had a deep love for his dogs—Mocha, Josie, and Delta—who brought him endless joy and companionship.

John leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Linda White Grafton, one nephew, Tony Nichols,  and one first cousin, Brent Johnston.

He is survived by his father, John Ralph Grafton Jr., one brother, Jeff  Grafton, two sisters, Edie Prescott (John) and Beverly Bell (Steve), nieces and nephews, Jordan Grafton, Caden Grafton, Grafton Prescott, Gavin Prescott and Danny Bell (Alandra), one aunt, Vicky Johnson (Mike) and one uncle, Cliff White (Sharon), with numerous other cousins and family members. He is also survived by his dogs, Mocha, Josie and Delta.
