John Wesley O'Quin, 81, a resident of Summit, MS; passed away May 18, 2023 at Diversicare in Brookhaven, MS.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 at Fellowship Baptist Church from 10:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Diane Woodall will officiate. Hartman Jones Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
John was born on August 24, 1941 in Tylertown, MS to Buell O'Quin and Myrtle E. McDaniel O'Quin. He was of the Baptist faith, and wished to be with His Jesus. He worked as a Carman Inspector for the railroad with the I.C.R.R and C.N.R.R. retiring in July 2002 in Natchez, MS. He loved his children and grandchildren. John enjoyed fishing and working in his tool shed. He was very proud of his work with the Shriner's International, Natchez Shrine Club "Big River Jamboree" where he served as a former President, also serving as a past FS/T of Masonic Lodge 875 BRCofA and past Master Harmony #1 and Andrew Jackson #2.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers-in-law Roger Barnett and Billy Barnett (Patricia), James Freeman, nephews Geary Freeman and Pete Barnett.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen O'Quin of Summit, his children Teresa O'Quin (Eric Wells) of Summit, Jean O'Quin of Jackson, MS and Karen O'Quin Wallace (COL Spencer Wallace) of Carlisle, PA, granddaughter Cameron Wallace and grandson Army SGT Chase Wallace, special niece Shelia Barnett of Summit, MS, special nephew Kevin Barnett of Summit, MS, close cousins Bonnie Prescott, Paul O'Quin, Pam Layton, Sherrie Edgy and Linda Owen, brothers and sisters-in-law Kenneth Barnett, Lamar and Tammy Barnett, Merle Freeman and Brenda Barnett, along with numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Lamar Barnett, Kenneth Barnett, David Greer, Kevin Barnett, Dalton Barnett, Chandler Barnett and Hayden Greer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Alexander, SGT Chase Wallace, Paige Freeman and Matthew Barnett.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Shreveport, LA.
