"Doug" Edwards
January 8, 1944 – April 25, 2023
Mr. Joseph Douglas Edwards, 79, a resident of Summit, passed away at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 10 A.M. until service time at 11 A.M. at Mars Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Jared Leonard and Dr. David Millican will officiate. Burial will be in the Mars Hill Cemetery with Hartman-Jones Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Joseph Douglas "Doug" Edwards was born January 8, 1944 in Amite County, Mississippi. He was the son of the late Joseph Forrest Edwards and Doris Lorraine Burris Edwards.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna Marie Edwards; a brother-in-law, Bobby L. Adams; a nephew, Conner C. Adams; his paternal grandparents, N.E. and Laura Edwards; and his maternal grandparents, Graves and Alma Burris.
Doug was a loyal American, who served in the Mississippi National Guard for 36 years. He was an avid cattle farmer, where he spent most of his time outside baling hay and farming his land. He was a devoted member of Mars Hill Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir.
He is survived by one sister, Mary Margaret Adams of Smithdale; one brother, Thomas James Edwards and wife, Sandra of Smithdale; four nephews, Fred Adams and wife, Darlene, Warren Adams and wife, Mary Jane, Charles Adams and wife, Amy, and Kevin Edwards all of Smithdale; two nieces, Sally Toler and husband, Chris of Liberty, MS, and Allyson Edwards of Jackson, MS. He had numerous great nieces; great nephews; great-great nieces and great-great nephews that he enjoyed spending time with.
Pallbearers will be Cael Adams, Tucker Adams, Dock Adams, Josh Cunningham, Tyler Cunningham, Kevin Edwards and Chris Toler.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to Mars Hill Baptist Church.
