Leroy Spring 78, a resident of Smithdale, MS, passed away September 26, 2022, at his residence.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Hartman Jones Funeral Home in McComb, MS from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church in Smithdale, MS from 9:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be in the Mt. Gilead church cemetery.  Elder Luke Addison will officiate.

Leroy was born November 7, 1943, in Smithdale, MS to the late James William Spring and Eloise Jones Spring. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church. He was a United States Navy Veteran and a Golden Glove Boxing Champion, along with being an avid sportsman.  Leroy worked many jobs, some of which included a sewing machine maintenance man with Kellwood in Liberty.  He went on work with construction and offshore as a crane operator.  Leroy continued in service as the district 5 supervisor in Franklin Co. He ran and operated chicken houses for Sanderson Farms for several years. Leroy spent time with his children and grandchildren hunting, fishing, and sharing the love for the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Angie Spring Coleman, and a sister Marjorie Roper.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Janice Key Spring of Smithdale; sons Danny Spring (Lisa) of Brookhaven, Bill Spring of Bude, MS; daughter Leigh Spring Martin (James) of Smithdale; brothers Joe Spring, James Spring, Johnny Spring (Betty); sisters Gloria Spring Wicker (David), Shelia Young (Travis), Georgia Daughdrill (Chris); fourteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, along with numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Bill Spring, William Spring, James Martin, Brad Wicker, Jake Spring and Johnny Spring.

Honorary pallbearer will be Danny Spring
