Obituary

Lewis Waller Roberts, 84, of McComb, passed away July 26, 2026, at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg. A private family memorial will be held at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home.

Mr. Roberts was retired from ICCR/Canadian Nation Railroad where he was a switch man and conductor for over forty years. After retiring from the railroad he returned to school at SMCC for AC/Refrigeration. He was a member and deacon of Friendship Baptist Church for many years and later became a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Summit. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved raising blue berries, muscadines and catalpa worms. He and his family made many memories at their family camp on the Mississippi River.

The passion of his life was for his children, their spouses and the grandchildren to listen and know the effectual call of the Lord Jesus. Believe, repent, turn and commit. “Be Faithful.” He prayed that prayer over his family countless times a day. Then he prayed the same prayer for his friends and the world.

Mr. Roberts was born on August 21, 1941, in McComb, MS, to the late Carey Waller Roberts and Mildred Dickerson Roberts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carey and Mildred Roberts; his two brothers, Fred Dickerson Roberts and William Carey Roberts; his nephew, Carey William Roberts; and his son, Kevin Roberts.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bridget W. Roberts of McComb, MS; his children, Wally (Kelly) Roberts of Clinton, LA; Mike (Shannon) of McComb, MS; Robbie (DeAnna) Roberts of McComb, MS; and Hilleri (Anthony) Burks of Hattiesburg, MS.

He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Devyn Roberts, Mike (Kari) Forbes, Jared (Sammi) Forbes, Lauren (Cody) Debetaz, Brandon Roberts, Kaitlyn Roberts, Alex Michael Roberts, Logan Wiley, Cameron Wiley, Ashleigh Roberts, Gracyn Roberts, Maverick Roberts, Faulkner Burks, and Stella Burks; and his six great grandchildren, Abby Debetaz, April Debetaz, Shane Forbes, Easton Forbes, Brayden Pellerin, and Tripp Forbes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Lewis W. Roberts, Sr. to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Arden Hospice, or Asbury Hospice House.
