Lewis Edward
Wallace
April 20, 1937 – April 24, 2024
Lewis Edward Wallace, 87 years old, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on April 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at home in Chatawa, MS.
Mr. Wallace was born on April 20, 1937, in Bogue Chitto, MS to Pat William Wallace and Nellie Marie Hodges. Lewis married the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Reeves on October 24, 1959, and their wedded bliss lasted almost 60 years until her passing in 2019.
They made their first home in New Orleans, La, and later returned to the Reeves family home in Chatawa, MS where they raised their family in a Christian home.
As a young man, Lewis was employed with BF Goodrich Tire Company in Jefferson Parish, LA, as a forklift operator. Upon his move to Mississippi, he was employed as an Electronic Data System Courier for Trustmark Bank for many years.
Later in life, he worked for the BC Rodgers Poultry Plant as the Maintenance Manager for the Refrigeration Department until his retirement.
He was an avid sportsman with a passion for hunting and fishing with his brother, Lamar. He was a member of the Southwest Coon Hunters Association, loved the thrill of tracking his trained coon dogs to tree a coon at night, and deer hunting to bring home the big one to display on the wall for bragging rights.
Later after retirement, he spent a lot of time at the "fish camp" in Deer Park, La, with his wife accompanying him. He loved the outdoors, walking through the property, growing fresh vegetables all year long, and riding his tractor.
He especially loved being around people and could be seen daily with his coffee buddies in Magnolia.
He was a member of Terry's Creek Baptist Church, active in the Men's Sunday School Class, and served on several church committees.
He was a family man and put God first in everything. His most cherished name was "Pops," given to him by his great-granddaughters, Mattie & Mary - the joy of his life.
Preceded in death by his spouse and parents were his infant child, Julia Ann Wallace; brother, Lamar Wallace; brothers-in-laws, Joe Pomes, James May, Smiley Reeves, Jr, and George Miller; sister in-laws, Audrey Wallace, and Betty Joyce Miller.
A devoted husband, father, "Paw Paw", "Pops", and friend who loved wholeheartedly, he leaves to cherish his memories to; children, Tammy Wallace Strickland (Randy) of Osyka, Patrick Edward Wallace, Chatawa, MS; grandchildren, Tiffany Strickland Lala (Jeffrey) of Meraux, LA, Blake Randall Strickland, of Ponchatoula, LA; great grandchildren, Matilyn Jean Lala, Mary Lane Lala; sisters, Shirley Wallace Pomes Arnold of Smithdale, MS, Peggy Wallace May of Meadville, MS, Lillian Springs Reeves, of Kenner, LA; Brother-in-law Paul Reeves, McComb, MS, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
