Obituary

Libby Nash Walsten, 89, of McComb, MS, peacefully passed away August 3, 2024 at The Pearl at Jamestown, after a five year journey with Alzheimer's Disease.

Libby grew up on a farm in Gloster, Mississippi with her father, mother, brother and sister, as well as numerous farm animals. Her love of God, family, and animals have been a part of her life since early childhood. Although Libby worked as a key punch operator in the early 60's, her heart was always focused on her family and homemaking. She enjoyed baking wonderful pies, breads, cookies, and candies. Her grandson especially loved her divinity and her granddaughter loved her yeast rolls. Sewing projects and various other crafts, including quilting, knitting, cross stitch, and needlepoint were always in progress. Gardening was another hobby that Libby enjoyed as well as taking care of and loving on her cats and dogs.

Upon graduating high school, Libby moved to New Orleans. She met her husband, George, while working as a key punch operator and they married in April of 1967. They moved to Metairie, near her sister, Freddie, and stayed untill George retired. Wanting to be near family, they moved to McComb in 1989 where she became an active member of West McComb Baptist Church and their senior group, Yesterday's Kids. After developing Alzheimer's Disease and the death of her husband, George, Libby moved to The Pearl of Baton Rouge, a memory care facility, to be near her daughter. She and the staff developed a special relationship along with many residents and their families.

Libby was preceded in death by her husband, George L Walsten, Jr. father, Fred O. Nash, mother, Verne Huie Nash, brother, Charles D Nash and his wife, Sophie, sister, Freddie Nelson and her husband, Ira Jenkins "Bill" Nelson, Jr., nephew in laws, George Williams and John Spokes, and a great niece, Jennifer Morris.
