Obituary

Linda Hughey Kavanaugh, 77, of McComb, MS, slipped into the arms of her Savior on September 22nd, 2022, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Liberty, MS to the late Fred and Elma Carraway Hughey on October 25, 1944.

Linda expressed her profession of faith at New Zion Baptist Church in August 1957, and was baptized in the Amite River, Amite County, MS.

Linda graduated from Liberty High School in 1962. After graduating high school, Linda's career led her to Vicksburg for a position with International Paper. Linda returned to McComb in 1980 and began her banking career with Deposit Guaranty Bank (now Regions Bank). Through her 31 years of service with the bank, she rose from entry level to various Branch Manager positions retiring as Vice President. She was a dependable employee and well liked by her fellow coworkers and long-time customers, receiving multiple customer service awards.

Linda's primary motivation was always the love she had for her family. Linda was a very generous person who put her families' needs ahead of her own. Linda was never afraid to make personal sacrifices for the greater good of her family. She was always happiest giving a hand to others with projects.

She enjoyed decorating her home and working in her yard. In retirement, Linda garnered a love for watching and identifying birds who visited her backyard feeder. She became quite the expert on the local birds. Her greatest joy in life was her son, Fredrick, always looking forward to their next conversation.

She was preceded in death by her older sister, Margaret (Judy) Hughey Sewell, and her mother and father.

She is survived by her son, Fredrick Kavanaugh (Tracy) and two granddaughters, Mary Kate Kavanaugh and Leanna Ross. She, also, is survived by two sisters, Jean Hughey Pigott and Patsy Hughey Brock (Bobby); two brothers, Bobby Hughey (Shirley) and James Hughey (Judy). Others left to remember Linda are several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 22nd from 1pm to 3pm at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the family cemetery, Nunnery Cemetery, Amite County, MS.
