Obituary

Martha Fae Rodgers Lamkin passed away at the Claiborne of McComb at  the age of 99.  Born September 11, 1926, to Addie Coley Rodgers and L.W. Rodgers, she attended McComb Highschool and Millsaps College majoring in Elementary Education.

In 1950 she married John Lamkin.  Their first home was in Anguilla, Mississippi where they both taught school.  After one year they both moved to Arlington, Maryland and had one daughter, Diane and one son, Johnny.  Martha continued to teach and John began to work for the National Security Agency (NSA).  In 1961, the NSA sent John to Germany, where their third child Trisha was born.

Martha, John and children returned stateside to Silver Springs, Maryland where they resided for the next 14 years.  John retired in 1985 after 30 years service and after a brief stay in Columbus, Ohio, Martha and the family returned to the family home in McComb, Mississippi, where they enjoyed their retirement. Gardening, horses and remodeling the family home were some of their interests.

Martha and John became active in the Oliver Emerich class at the Centenary United Methodist Church and made many friends there.  Martha enjoyed her new life and being away from life in Washington, D.C.  Martha was an avid reader.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and her children: Diane, Johnny and Trisha.  Her sister Adelia Rodgers Marsh (Woodrow) of Cleveland, Mississippi and niece Carol Marsh also preceded her in death.

Survivors include nephew James Rodgers Marsh of Savannah, Georgia, cousin Laura Rodgers Ray of Winter Haven, Florida  and extended Lamkin family.

Special thanks to caregiver Shirley Norman and a special group of ladies who assisted in her care.  To Connie Felter, who attended her spiritual needs in friendship and the staff of Bristol Hospice for their compassionate care.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb is in charge of arrangements.
