Martha Anna Dickerson Smith was born to Willianna “Toodles” Sandidge Dickerson and Fulton Thomas Dickerson. Martha was one of five children and was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ronald Fulton Dickerson.

Martha grew up in Summit, Mississippi, and married her high school sweetheart, Tommy Wayne Smith, and they were happily married for sixty years. Together, they built a beautiful life and a loving home centered on faith, family, and service.

Martha was a devoted wife, mother, and Mimi. She loved her family deeply and built her home with wisdom, grace, and love. She is survived by her beloved husband, Tommy; two daughters, Trecia Smith Phillips (Will) and Tammy Smith Dozier (Woody); and seven grandchildren — Will Phillips, Jr., Martha Ellen Phillips, Anna Grace Phillips, Gus Dozier, Paul Phillips, Luke Phillips, and Cole Dozier.

The joy of the Lord was Martha’s strength — not only throughout her illness, but throughout her entire life. She was quick-witted, quick to serve, and had a special gift for making others feel valued, welcomed, and loved.

Martha faithfully served alongside her husband as a pastor’s wife and dearly loved the church. She shared the love of God with everyone she met and lived her faith in a way that touched countless lives. Her love for Jesus and her family is her legacy.

She often quoted her mother’s favorite Bible verse:

“Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5

Martha’s favorite verse was:

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

Her life was a testimony of faith, joy, love, and devotion. She leaves behind a legacy of a home built with wisdom, a family deeply loved, a church faithfully served, and a Savior whom she loved with all her heart.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 16, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home Of Brewton, Alabama Directing.

Graveside service will be held Friday, September 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Johnston Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery of Summit, Mississippi.
