Mary Ellen Barnett O'Quin, 82, a resident of Summit, Ms and formerly of Natchez, passed away May 25, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Fellowship Baptist Church from 10 A.M. till service time at 11:00 A.M. The Reverend Dianne Woodall will officiate. Burial will follow in Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. Hartman Jones Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
She was born April 17, 1941 in Tylertown, Mississippi, to the late Johnny and Minnie Madge Kyzar Barnett. She was a homemaker.
Mary Ellen was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and the oldest of six siblings. She was affectionally known to her precious nieces and nephews as Aunt Ellen and to her grandchildren as "MawMaw". An avid gardener known for her beautiful roses, she also enjoyed crocheting, making jewelry, fishing, and going to yard sales where she had an eye for beautiful treasures and a heart for giving. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed listening to gospel, blue grass, and country music, especially Vern Gosdin and George Jones.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. O'Quin was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John Wesley O'Quin; two brothers: Billy Barnett (Patricia) and Roger Barnett; an infant sister, Betty Jo Barnett; brother-in-law, James Freeman; and two nephews: Geary Freeman and Pete Barnett.
Mrs. O'Quin is survived by her children: Teresa O'Quin (Eric Wells) of Summit, MS, Jean O'Quin of Jackson, MS and Karen O'Quin Wallace (COL Spencer Wallace) of Carlisle, PA.; one sister, Merle Freeman; two brothers: Lamar Barnett (Tammy) and Kenneth Barnett; one sister-in-law, Brenda Barnett; Granddaughter, Cameron Wallace and grandson, Army SGT Chase Wallace; a special niece, Shelia Barnett; and special nephews: Kevin Barnett (Lacey), Matthew Barnett (Alison), and Paige Freeman along with numerous other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be: Lamar Barnett, Kenneth Barnett, Kevin Barnett, David Greer, Chandler Barnett, and Hayden Greer.
Honorary pallbearers will be: SGT Chase Wallace, Paige Freeman, Dalton Barnett, and Matthew Barnett.
