Deer Linton
April 6, 1937 – March 30, 2023
Mary Evelyn Deer Linton, 85, of McComb, and a resident of Aston Court, died March 30, 2023, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be Saturday April 1st, 2023 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb. Visitation will resume Sunday at the First Baptist Church of McComb from 1 PM until services at 2 PM. Dr. Woody Rimes and Rev. Mary Evelyn was born April 6, 1937, in McComb. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary Lou Tarver Deer. She was a beloved wife, mother, and Gran who loved God, her family, and her many friends.
Mary Evelyn graduated from Fernwood High School, where she was salutatorian of her class. She was a devoted wife to her husband James L. "Red" Linton. Mary Evelyn worked as the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Red's Electric Service, for 27 years. She later served for 20 years as a SMRMC Pink Ladies Auxiliary volunteer, spending most of this time working in the gift shop.
Mary Evelyn attended McComb First Baptist Church, where she sang in the adult choir and the senior adult choir for many years. She had a huge servant heart, which was evident in all the ministries she participated in for the church. One of her favorite ministries was helping prepare and serve bereavement meals to families after funerals. If there was a ministry, she was able to help with, she gave it her all. She also participated in many mission trips, including one to Romania.
Mary Evelyn had lots of hobbies that she enjoyed. She loved to sew and quilt for her family and loved to read anything from cover to cover. But her favorite activity was working in her yard and flowerbeds. No weed could hide from her, sticks and leaves were immediately cleaned away, and flowers flourished under her care. She also loved to travel, and her travels took her all over the United States, to Germany, and to the Holy Land.
Mary Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband "Red", an infant daughter, Stacy D. Linton, and two sisters, Irene Beason and Jo Ann Chunn.
Survivors include one son, Carl Linton (Karen) of McComb, and one daughter, Denise Flippen (Randy) of Pine Grove, La., six grandchildren, Jeremy Flippen (Heather) of Pine Grove, La., Derek Flippen (Ashley) of Pine Grove, La., Jonathan Linton (Ashley) of Ellisville, Ms., Carla Newell (Cameron) of Wesson, Ms., Shannon Vessier (Landon) of Central, La., and Jordan Linton of Gonzales, La., and brothers Henry Deer (Karen) of Brandon, Ms., and Jewell Deer (Judy) of McComb.
