Obituary

This special lady was born on September 24, 1933 to Freddie Ball Moore and Earl Moore of Smithdale, Mississippi and went to be with her Lord on June 29, 2023.  She was a graduate of Liberty High School as Salutatorian, and Southwest Mississippi Community College with honors while serving as the secretary to Presidents Moore and Huddleston.  Later, at Mississippi College she graduated with distinction.

After college, Mrs. Conner first taught business classes in Shelby, Mississippi where she met and married her loving husband Howard H. Conner of fifty-four years.  Howard preceded her in death in January 2010.  This much loved teacher taught at Amite County Public School and then at Amite School Center accumulating well over 20 years of not only teaching, but encouraging and guiding students in life.

Mary Etta as she was known was a member of Hebron Baptist Church for over 75 years.  Across those years, she served as a Sunday school teacher, pianist, and as church treasurer for 25 years.  Recently she was the oldest mother in attendance on Mother's Day Sunday!  At times, she served on committees of the Mississippi Baptist Association.

For many years, Mary served and was a member with her husband, Howard, in both Mississippi and Louisiana Campers on Mission, and Texas Volunteer Christian Builders.  Together they served on many mission trips from Misssippi to Alaska.  She was a member and served in other organizations such as Daughters of the American Revolution, Telephone Pioneers of America, and when able enjoyed attending events of the Liberty Church V.I.P. and appreciated their love towards her.

Mrs. Conner was, also, preceded in death by her parents, brother Buddy Moore, and sister Nannie Jo Cain.  Surviving her is her beloved sister Willda Lee Butler, and close sister-in-law Jane Leonard. Remaining family include her daughter Mary Jane Saucier (David), and James "Jay" Conner (Catherine), grandchildren Richard Reid (Jennifer), Lindsay McLean (Leo), great-grandchildren Clayton Reid, Collin Reid, Jeovani Conner, Ashford McLean, Leonel "Levi" Vasquez lll, and great-great grandchildren Zayden Reid, Peyton Etta Reid, and Mary Parker Reid. She loved all of her nieces and nephews, and knew of their love for her in return.

This faithful sister, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend suffered a stroke on June 20, 2023.  Many heard her say, "I am ready for heaven!"  Let us celebrate that she is with the Lord Jesus.

The family issues special thanks to the staff of Aston Court Assisted Living and the Enhabit Hospice who cared for her in the last months and days of her life.
