In loving memory of Matthew Adam Root, 50, who passed away at his residence on February 3, 2024. A visitation will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Centenary United Methodist Church from 10 AM until services at 12 PM. Burial will be at Hollywood Cemetery. Rev. Vicki Landrum will officiate. Hartman Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Royal Oak, Michigan on August 31, 1973 to Richard and Joann Cook Root, Matt later made McComb his home with his parents and brother. Matt's life was enriched when he met his sweetheart, Kimberly Moak. After graduating the University of Mississippi where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, they embarked on a beautiful journey together, tying the knot and later welcoming their cherished daughter, Addison Elizabeth Root, into their lives. They made McComb their home where he resided until his death.

During childhood he developed a love of baseball. His parents enthusiastically cheered him on from the stands.

As a young boy, holidays were spent with his grandparents and family. There was always a game or two of Skip Bo and he was a fierce competitor.

Matt's professional journey included dedicated service at several financial institutions in McComb. He was passionate about exercise and music. He enjoyed tennis, kayaking and spending time with family and friends.

Matt's spiritual journey lead him to become an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where he found solace and community alongside his family. Beyond his faith, Matt took pleasure in the excitement of football, with a particular fondness for bowl games.

Matt enjoyed solitude, yet he also cherished the company of his close friends, creating a meaningful connection with those around him. He shared a special bond with a group of men who fondly referred to themselves as "the Fab 5."

Matt possessed an excellent sense of humor. He was quick and his subtle delivery of witty remarks only added to his humor. Those of us who knew him often enjoyed those funny moments with Matt.

Matt and Kim bought a second home in Kiln, Mississippi several years ago. It was there that he found peace and contentment. He and Kim called it their "Happy Place."

Above all else, Matt cherished his wife, Kim and beloved daughter, Addison. They enjoyed brief trips together where they were able to escape the mundane routines of daily life. These trips provided a time of relaxation, adventure, and reconnection. He was happiest during these times they shared together.

He was a former member of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Exchange Club.

Matt is survived by his wife, Kimberly Moak Root, and his daughter Addison Elizabeth Root. He also leaves behind his parents, Richard and Joann Root, one brother, Steve Root, brother-in-law, Chris Moak, a niece, two nephews, special friend, David Kavanay and other extended family members.

Pallbearers will be Carey Hemphill, James Hart, Neel Gibson, David Kavanay, Cab Kervin, and Noel Travis.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church.
