Nelson was born in Pike County on March 11, 1938 to his parents, the late Estus Keene and Minnie Johnson Keene. His singing voice was well known in the community, often heard at weddings, funerals, and local singings. He especially loved southern gospel music. His kindness and love of God was evident to everyone who came in contact with him. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
