Obie Lee Phelps, 84, of Tylertown, MS passed away March 4, 2024 at Highland Community Hospital in Picayune, MS.
Visitation will be Friday evening at Dexter Pentecostal Church from 5 until 8 PM and continues Saturday from 10 until services at 11:00 AM. Rev. Jerry Terrell, Rev. Mitch Phelps, and Rev. Jason Rocko will officiate. Burial will follow in the Foxworth Cemetery. Hartman Jones Funeral Home will handle arrangements. Pallbearers will be Mark McElveen, Zac Dias, Brent Terrell, Adyn Phelps, Payton Phelps, and Spencer McElveen.
Mr. Phelps was born on February 27, 1940 in Magnolia, MS to the late Ernest Phelps and Zellie Rose Phelps. He was a retired carpenter and veteran of the United States Army. He was also known as a man of faith who loved his Lord and his family. Mr. Obie was a founding member of Guiding Light Pentecostal and Dexter Pentecostal Churches.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Rhonda Phelps; Granddaughter Lanie Phelps; brothers Billy, Robert, Edgar and Earl Phelps; sisters Dorothy Ready, Rena Dreeszen, Rosa Lee Mote, Patricia Jasper and Carolyn Brown.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Brenda Phelps of Tylertown; Michael Phelps and his wife Ginger of Tylertown; Renee McElveen and her husband Mark of Olive Branch, MS; Mitchell Phelps and his wife Esmirna of Mooresville, NC; six grandchildren Savannah Dias, Spencer McElveen, Payton Phelps, Elizabeth McElveen, Adyn Phelps, and Isaac Phelps; two great grandchildren Elijah Dias And Gabriel Obie Dias; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
