Obituary

Patricia (Pat) Aston Rainey, born August 29, 1943, went to be with the Lord on February 11, 2026 at her home in Gillsburg, Mississippi.

A visitation will be held Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Hartman Jones Funeral Home from 9 AM until services at 11 AM. Burial will be at Hollywood Cemetery and Dr. Victor Walsh will officiate. Hartman Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born to parents William Aston and Nellie Musselwhite in Birmingham, Alabama.  She was raised in Mobile, Alabama, attending Dauphin Way Baptist Church, and graduating from Murphy High School in 1961.  She married Ronnie Rainey on December 17, 1971.  Pat and Ronnie became advocates for adoption in the 1970s and through the adoption advocacy group, Adoptive Couples Together, helped lead the largest grassroots adoption advocacy movement in Louisiana at the time that led to the passing of SB 210 in 1979.  In addition to adoption advocacy, she spent many years teaching elementary school in Georgia and Louisiana, retiring in 1994.  The Raineys moved to Hebron, Mississippi in 1994 and then to Gillsburg in 1997.  Pat was a beloved member of the Gillsburg community and a faithful member of Gillsburg Baptist Church, teaching Vacation Bible School and a Ladies Sunday School Class for many years.  She was very supportive of the Youth Ministry as well.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Courtney Mashon Rainey, her father William Morris Aston, her stepfather and mother Charles and Nellie Musselwhite Stanley, her brother Charles Stanley, Jr., and sister Andrea Stanley.

Pat is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ronnie Rainey of Gillsburg, son and daughter-in-law Grant and Kimberly Rainey of Missouri City, Texas, grandsons Lincoln and Walker Rainey of Missouri City, Texas.

A special thank you to the nurses and staff at Dignity Hospice for their compassionate care for Pat in her last months as well as the many caregivers she had over the last few years.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Pat to Gillsburg Baptist Church Youth Ministry or Shriners Children's Hospital.

Honorary pallbearers are Lincoln and Walker Rainey.
