Paul Hughes,75, a resident of Smithdale, MS passed away on August 3, 2025 at the UMMC Hospital in Jackson, MS., surrounded by his loving family.

A visitation will be held Friday, August 8, 2025 at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home from 12 Noon until services at  3 PM. Rev. Eric Moak will officiate.

Paul was born on December 1, 1949 to the late, Prentiss A. and Florence Murry Hughes.

Paul was a tool pusher in the oil-fields, he served his country in  the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed working with his cows, working in his garden and fishing. He loved the Lord, was a hard worker and the glue that kept the family together. He was a hard person with a soft heart who helped anyone who needed it. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents,  a wife, Nora Hughes, two brothers, Alfred Hughes and Glenn Ray Hughes, one sister, Brenda Hughes and one grandchild, Quentin Emfinger.

He is survived by two sons, William P. Hughes (Stephanie), and Jacob A. Hughes, two daughters, Sonya D. Bassemier (Shane) and Sabrinia Greene (Mike), two brothers Alvin P. Hughes and Jimmy Dale Tyler (Itonya "Sissy"), one sister, Terri Nettles, thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren with numerous nieces and nephews.
