Obituary

Peggy Maxwell "Sweetie" was born on January 8, 1949, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Sweetie went home to be with Jesus on February 14, 2025, while sleeping peacefully in Summit, Mississippi. She is preceded in death by both her father and mother, Edward and Joyce Maxwell, her loving grandmother Lillie Foltmer, her brother, Jimmy Maxwell, the husband and father of her children, Roy Austin, her husband, Mohammad Abbas, and her eldest grandchild, Casey. Sweetie is survived by her two children, Michele Hartz (Sol) and Ashley Austin (April), and her grandchildren, Jordan Hartz, Max Austin (Flavia Austin), Mitchell Austin, Joshua Hartz, and Andrew Austin. And her brother and sister, John Maxwell (Amy) and Nancy Murchison (Dillion).

Sweetie was a life-long resident of New Orleans until 2021 when she moved to Summit. She was a student of Louisiana State University, the director and part owner of Maxwell Toulouse Caberet, jeweler in the New Orleans French Market, and greeter at Vintage Girls and that Guy in Summit, doing what she loved most, meeting people.

Sweetie's favorite thing to do was share her love for her Savior and her family. In her final days, Sweetie told loved ones, "I just want to wash the feet of Jesus". Her servant's heart's wish was fulfilled on Valentine's Day to be in the eternal presence of her Lord. She will be missed by many for her loving qualities that made her sweet. As we grieve here, we know she is loving being in the presence of her Savior and her loved ones. We cling to John 14:19, "Because I live, you will also live" and Psalm 34:18 "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed."

A visitation will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025 at First Baptist Church of McComb from 3 PM until services at 6 PM. Hartman Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
