Richard "Dick" Root, 78, passed away June 28, 2024 at SMRMC.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at McComb Church of Christ from 11 AM until services at 1 PM. Burial will be at Johnson Grove Church of Christ Cemetery in Bogue Chitto, MS. Jeff Frank will officiate.

Dick was born in Lynch, Kentucky on February 10, 1946.

His parents soon moved to Detroit, Michigan to work at Ford Motor Company. He attended Ferndale High school, where he played football and ran track.

He graduated from Ferndale High and was drafted into the US Army in October of 1965. Before moving to Germany where he was stationed, he married the love of his life, Jo Ann Cook. They lived for two years in Germany before moving back to the states. He began working for Chrysler Corp, working ten years before going back to school to become a minister.

He has dedicated his life to doing what he loved to do. For forty six years, he has taught God's word in Michigan and Mississippi. He never met a stranger and tried to help anyone he could. He was a man who went about doing good.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Root and his beloved son, Matthew.

He is survived by his wife of fifty eight years, Jo Ann and his loving son Steve; his daughters-in-law Patricia Root Lawrence, and Kimberly Root, his loving sister, Linda De La Rosa. He has three grandchildren Steven "Mark" Jr., Mary Claire Root and Addison Root. Special cousins, Shirley Raskin, Alecia Ramsey, and Danielle Brosofski; a niece Nichole Schmit, husband Jessie; nephew Phillip De La Rosa and wife Kelly; along with numerous friends, neighbors, and special care giver Marissa.

Pallbearers will be Blake Brewer, Ken Jackson, Darren McEwen, Kirby Fleming, Charlie Newton, and Randy Spring.
